The Hardkorr U-Lite™ Dual Colour Universal Lantern has developed a huge cult following since its release in 2018, and now we’ve made it even better! Not only is it 50% brighter, but we’ve ditched the AAA batteries and replaced them with an inbuilt rechargeable lithium battery, making the lantern even easier to use.
After the upgrades the lantern still weighs only 85g, and with both an inbuilt magnet and durable elastic strap, it can attach to wheel wells, under bonnets, tool or tackle boxes, tent poles, caravans, awnings, camper trailers, fences and many more places. How does orange light reduce bug presence?
Some bugs, like mosquitos and moths, can’t help but move their body towards any light source they can see. This phenomenon is called positive phototaxis. Entomologists still don’t have a complete understanding of why this phenomenon exists, but it is clearly observable in nature.
Of course, bugs will only be attracted to light they can see, and there is a useful difference between the spectra of light which are visible to humans compared to bugs. Humans can generally see light which has a wavelength between 380nm (blue) and 740nm (red). Most bugs, conversely, can see light with a wavelength between 300nm and 600nm.
The wavelength of our orange LEDs is 610nm, putting them outside of the spectrum visible to must bugs, but still well inside the boundaries of human vision. As a result, most bugs will not congregate around our orange light because they simply don’t know it is there.

I love these. They’ve replaced the big Chinese brand led square I used to stick on a pole.. it did well lighting up the camp but was a pain to put up and attracted lots of insects. I love the warm glow these lights shed and the way you can place, attach or hang them around the camp so you can create a very pleasant ambiance – you just have to remember not to drive off in the morning and leave them hanging on a tree or stuck to the car.
The case is excellent and the usb cable that can charge all four lights at the same time is a great addition.
One small idea for improvement that would be very useful would be some loops on the case to allow it to be attached to a Molle panel or easily tied to something.

Brought a set of these lights leading up to Christmas 2021, and they have been great little lights, they pack a punch on high, but we have found low and medium is all we have needed!
easy to use, push the power button to cycle through the mods High, Medium, Low, Steady orange, then flashing orange (then off), but if you leave it set on Medium for example, you only have to hit the power button once to turn off.
We have used these out camping, we put one under the step of the van so if req to get up through the night your not going to stand on a snake at the doorstep, and have used these inside our home when we lost power, the magnet just holds it to the cupboard handles and the kitchen sink.
Very happy with these, and several mates have ordered a set since seeing ours! Good job Hardkorr!

Used them on Yellow from Sunset to 1am the first two nights, they were still going at 3.30am on the 3rd night. Fantastic light set. We have the 4 x LED HardKorr strip lights as well but I bought these for faster, more convenient set up without having to run wiring etc. They are perfect for an overnight or short term fast set up and pull down. They magnetise to the camper trailer, strap to the awning poles, whatever and put out enough light to easily and fully light a 20-30sqm area like daylight. A camping mate put me on to these which he has strung on elastic rope inside his vehicle and tent. These little lights are awesome! Grab the 4 pack, you’ll find a use for them everywhere, and they come in a really nice zipper case with a 4-1 USB lead so you can charge all 4 at once – a nice touch. The battery life is really great too. Brilliant product and the quality is evident. Have not tried the anti-bug orange feature but I have heard it works. The inbuilt magnet is also great, you can bung it on any steel anywhere, so handy and quick.

Absolutely love these, we have an old caravan, also car/tent camp setup and swag/cot bare minimum overnight set up, the best thing is we use these over all set ups , without having to have individual set ups which makes the price incredibly cheap- I also use the elastic to put it on a baseball cap clasp( worn backwards ) for a head lamp, and at home over my bbq- stuck to the corrugated iorn roof by the magnet- rarely use 4 at once so they last days of camping without charging , even though easily charged while driving, I’d had the magnetic bar kit for years so was happy with the quality of hardkorr- I don’t use it anymore and have given it to my mate, as this new kit is so small and convenient
