The Hardkorr U-Lite™ Dual Colour Universal Lantern has developed a huge cult following since its release in 2018, and now we’ve made it even better! Not only is it 50% brighter, but we’ve ditched the AAA batteries and replaced them with an inbuilt rechargeable lithium battery, making the lantern even easier to use.
After the upgrades the lantern still weighs only 85g, and with both an inbuilt magnet and durable elastic strap, it can attach to wheel wells, under bonnets, tool or tackle boxes, tent poles, caravans, awnings, camper trailers, fences and many more places. How does orange light reduce bug presence?
Some bugs, like mosquitos and moths, can’t help but move their body towards any light source they can see. This phenomenon is called positive phototaxis. Entomologists still don’t have a complete understanding of why this phenomenon exists, but it is clearly observable in nature.
Of course, bugs will only be attracted to light they can see, and there is a useful difference between the spectra of light which are visible to humans compared to bugs. Humans can generally see light which has a wavelength between 380nm (blue) and 740nm (red). Most bugs, conversely, can see light with a wavelength between 300nm and 600nm.
The wavelength of our orange LEDs is 610nm, putting them outside of the spectrum visible to must bugs, but still well inside the boundaries of human vision. As a result, most bugs will not congregate around our orange light because they simply don’t know it is there.

Best camp light I have found. We bought two of these for the kids but they have become our most used lights when camping. great for walking around with and amazing for attaching to the camp trailer with the magnet, or the poles with the band.
also use it on my bike handlebars.
the orange mode is great as it attracts fewer bugs.
I mostly use it on the lowest brightness setting and it just lasted our 4 day camp tip without a recharge. awesome.
The only improvement would be if the magnet section was also a belt clip shape so I could put it on the front of my jacket etc.

Great little lights, perfect for camping. My two very minor niggles…. 1) Why start on the brightest setting? Wish they’d start low and ramp up with each click… and just adjust up/down with a long hold, likewise for the orange light should also have several settings starting low.. no one wants the light going full bright in the middle of the night. 2) Most stuff is switching to USB-C, wish this was too but overall not a biggie.

Bought these at the Melbourne caravan show on a whim, I’m so impressed, easy to use, and with the elastic strap you can attach them most places. We try to be off grid, so rather than use the house batteries on our internal four stalk type van lights, I attach one of these to each light and they work a treat, especially the different light levels, so I use the low ones in the bedroom area and brighter in the lounge area. Easy to store and simple to charge with the one usb cable and that is linked, so they chain charge. I would rate these 10/10. I’m a customer and very thrilled with them.

These lights are great but when you integrated the rechargeable battery you went from USB C to micro USB. Strange decision considering everything is moving to the superior USB C. When I ordered more I didn’t know this so now half my lights require a different cable.

We find the four lamps in the kit brilliant for camping… 2 x high white for cooking, then one for two on orange for the rest of the evening. Or one on low white just to help illuminate our table area while accessing phones, photos, etc. over a muscat or other digestive.
The 4x charging rig is very easy to use, as each lamp confirms it’s fully charged.
Perfect after 12 months of regular use.

Great little light, a powerful light source for it’s size yet has flexible options with a large area spread. I think the addition of orange light is excellent touch. Have been camping in swampy areas and the bug invasion is minimal. It’s light weight is great for throwing in the backpack, you don’t even know it’s there. Can’t recommend enough for a portable and very bright area light at a great price. Was given as a gift and didn’t think to much about it up until work had changed the batten light in my donga to a overly bright LED light. U-lite had come in extra handy when it gets late and my eyes are sore from the main light. All 3 levels of the white lighting is perfect and battery life is as described as packaging. Though could only rate it 3 stars as i put it to the test for about 5 times a week for about 1.5 months and the battery will now either refuse to charge or could barely hold a charge anymore.
Other than that pricing is set perfectly and construction of light is good and would make a great light if its for casual use only.

So far so good! I bought the 4 pack and they are awesome for a quick set up and pack up. I use an oztent RV-4 so put 2 of these lights on the middle bar inside the tent and the other 2 under the awning, perfect. I do own other battery operated mini floods for cooking but on a quick 1 or 2 night trip these would be sufficient. Cheers guys.
